What You’ll Need

1 / Fold Filter
Fold the Hario filter along the seam to help it sit flat in your V60.

2 / Pre-Heat Vessel + Pre-Wet Filter
Position the filter in your V60. Place the V60 atop Hario server or mug. Pre-wet your filter with boiling water. This helps reduce papery flavours while preheating your serving vessel. Discard the water.

3 / Get Your Beans
For a 12oz cup, grind 23g (4tbls) at medium coarseness. For a 16oz cup, grind 33g (6tbls) at medium coarseness. Level the fresh grounds into the V60.

4 / Get Your Water
For a 12oz cup, get 360g water at 200-205°F. For a 16oz cup, get 470g water at 200-205°F. In both cases, use a gooseneck or fine spouted kettle.

5 / Pre-Infuse Grounds
Begin a timer and start a gentle circular pour in the center of the grounds. Saturate the entire surface of the ground coffee with 50-70g of water for 12-15 seconds. Then pause.

6 / Continue Pouring
At 45 seconds continue pouring. Beginning at the center, pour in a slow circular motion towards the outside of the V60, then back towards the center. For a 12oz cup, the entire process should take 1:50-2:00 minutes. For a 16oz cup, 2:20-2:30 minutes.

7 / Discard Filter + Enjoy
Once the water disappears below the bed of grounds your coffee is ready. Simply remove your V60, discarding the spent filter and enjoy!
What to do if your coffee is too strong or weak:
CHECK YOUR GRIND
A finer grind results in a higher extraction and strength. A coarser grind results in a lower extraction and strength.
CHECK YOUR COFFEE-TO-WATER RATIO
Too much coffee can result in a brew that is too strong and sour. Insufficient coffee can result in a brew that is weak and bitter.
